The Supplies
If anything has carried my cold, dead soul through this year, it’s The Proclamation Duo set by Proclamation Goods.
Essentially, this is a set of two gorgeous stainless-steel pans that are great on their own but also fit together to create a Dutch oven (the third piece is a lid that can be used for either separate pan). With this space-saving setup, you can do literally everything that people do when they’re cooking, including sautéing, roasting, boiling, braising, frying, sous viding, steaming, et cetera. Personally, I’ve made a ton of soups, stews, one-pan dishes, and roasts with The Proclamation Duo and I’ve honestly considered giving away all of my other pots and pans in the name of minimalism.
You can cook everything you need for your holiday meal with this singular setup (including dessert), so buy it immediately. It also makes an excellent gift for anyone who loves to spend time in the kitchen.
Aside from your primary cooking vessel, you’ll want to make sure that you’re also stocked on the basics, like olive oil, salt, pepper, stocks and/or broths, a cute-yet-functional holiday apron, that sort of thing. I also highly recommend having at least one super-sharp go-to chef’s knife, like this Tojiro Fujitora Santoku, which is handmade in Japan.
In terms of serveware, if you don’t have any, don’t fret—we’ll cover that next.
