No longer will you be running into Caroline Calloway (and her cat) at parties, poetry readings, or Paul's. Apparently, the days of her holding court at costume balls or the Waverly Inn with flowers in her hair are over: the infamous Instagram "It Girl" has officially ditched New York City.
And Instagram, for that matter.
The self-styled scammer, literal "Snake Oil" salesman, and lovable downtown menace first gained internet fame thanks to her long-winded captions romanticizing her life as an undergrad at Cambridge, then as a "creativity workshop" conwoman, then as the victim of a very public betrayal by her former BFF. After that, she was simply known as a fascinating amalgamation of all of the above, a real-life meme that a certain type of New Yorker-in-the-know would sneak a photo of if they spotted her in the wild.
Whether she was loved, hated, or obsessed over, though, the city eventually embraced Caroline as one of its resident characters.
After a series of chaotic going away parties hosted at her West Village apartment, attended by fellow social media stars, well-heeled party people, and various cool creatives according to the colorful coverage from New York Magazine's Brock Colyar, Caroline has packed her bags and set sail for Florida, where she plans on focusing on her memoir.
If you're hoping to follow along with her misadventures via Instagram or IG stories, however, you'll be disappointed to learn that Caroline has completely erased her longstanding presence on the app and reportedly plans to stay off it indefinitely.
Thankfully, she did provide her fans and stalkers a series of social media farewells on TikTok.
Until we meet again, CC!
