What did you do before Rivington Desing House? Did you always want to go into design?
Brion Isaacs: I didn't mean to do this. I was a drummer, and before a drummer I was an artist. I had artwork in the Historical Society in New York as a kid, and I was really good at drawing. But then Franco V (NYC DJ and one of Brion's childhood friends) was like ‘I need a drummer or I need a bass player, can you learn how to play these instruments?’ I was like sure, I’ll learn the drums. So I worked on the drums, when we were like 15 or 16, and then I was going to be a drummer. Then someone was like hey, can you DJ? And I was like 'yeah of course I can DJ! I just said yes to everything. And so I started DJing at Diesel. I didn’t even know how to DJ, so I took my music and I adjusted the start and stop times on iTunes, spent like 10 hours blending it, so I went there and had nothing to do (laughs).
So music was going on, and all of a sudden I was working at my family art store on the side as well, so I was constantly immersed in music and design, and people would come in everyday like 'I need to do this project,' so it was really hands on. Basically learning how to be really creative.
