Founded in 1872, the Bohemian Club, as its name would indicate, was created as a haven for writers, musicians, and artists. Though still located in its original building in the Union Square district of San Francisco, the club has since taken on a more business and tech-savvy tone. If you wish to join the ranks of Ronald Reagan and William Randolph Hearst but need to ask how, this probably isn't the club for you. As its chill Shakespeare motto, "Weaving Spiders Come Not Here," would indicate, the Bohemian Club is a place of respite rather than business. But just in case members somehow feel tired of the downtown SF location, the club also has an outpost in Sonoma County called the Bohemian Grove, which hosts what are basically grownup summer camps for powerful men.
