Truman Capote's Black & White Ball, 1966

Widely considered one of New York's last great society moments, Truman Capote's Black and White ball set the stage for countless soirées to come, requiring partygoers such as Frank Sinatra, Mia Farrow, and Lauren Bacall to wear their monochrome finest while donning masks. Held at the Plaza in honor of newspaper publisher Katharine Graham, almost 600 of Capote's closest friends rubbed elbows in the Grand Ballroom. Andy Warhol remarked to his friend, "We’re the only nobodies here."
