New Amsterdam Theater
Location:New Amsterdam Theater, 214 W 42nd St.
History: The New Amsterdam Theater was built in 1902-1903 and has since been home to the ghost of the beloved actress and model - Olive Thomas.
Haunted Happenings: The ghost of the New Amsterdam Theater is not frightening at all - in fact she's particularly flirty. Olive Thomas, a stunning Broadway actress and model has also given herself the unique distinction of being the ghost of the New Amsterdam Theater. On September 20, 1920, when Olive was 17 years old, she accidentally (hm...) ingested an entire bottle of Mercury Bichloride pills that were prescribed to her husband, Jack Pickford, for his syphilis. Works claim to have seen her walking around the theater, clutching the bottle of pills.
There is now a photo of her hanging on the stage door and every night the cast and crew say, "Goodnight, Olive" and often blow her a kiss. If you happen to be catching a show at the New Amsterdam theater anytime soon, don't forget to say hello.
