Fraunces Tavern
Fraunces Tavern, located at 54 Pearl St., housed the first ever offices for the United States Department of Foreign Affairs. It is also the oldest building in Manhattan, which is pretty neat. The federal government moved its offices south in 1788, which allowed for the building to become a tavern. Known as a “Liberty Bar,” or a bar in which patriots could gather to conspire and cohort against the British all while getting turnt during the Revolutionary War, the tavern’s central location made it a popular meeting spot for Hamilton and co.
