NYC: BOOKTHEWRITER
No iPads allowed. Cherishers of the spoken word and the smell of a freshly purchased novel, gather round. First started by Jean Hanff Korelitz, author of Admission among others, BOOKTHEWRITER has branched out to revive and refurbish the classic book club. Sending authors to existing book clubs, and offering “Pop-Up Book Groups” with selected authors through Eventbrite, BOOKTHEWRITER refreshes those tech-exhausted, those under the influence of Instagram and Snapchat, those who may have just yet, forgotten how to read. Sip coffee next to Love, Loss and What I Wore’s Ilene Beckerman and lounge couch-side next to The Nanny Diaries’ Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. While we fangirl over RHONY star Carole Radziwill’s appearance (we know, how modern of us) to talk about her novel, The Widow’s Guide to Sex and Dating (oh so sadly, although the club meeting was filmed, it did not make it on air), the intimate yet now seemingly outdated idea of reading a real book and joining with your friends in a weekly ritual seems to be exactly what is missing in our 2015 lives. Who knew seemingly prehistoric rituals could be so chic?
