The Stress Isn't Good for You
Do you know what being stressed means? It means you still care about something. Stress means you're motivated; that something in life matters to you. Stress pushes you to be more creative. Stress drives you to stay up late putting the finishing touches on your masterpiece. Stress keeps your neurons firing and awake. Sure, we all love to complain about it, but do you know anyone interesting who isn't stressed? Janice from accounting doesn't count (we all know she is internalizing her stress and will breakdown soon).
Being stressed is cathartic. Power crying on the subway after your coffee spills down the front of your dress and your boss yells at you for being late (it's not your fault that the L is like a fucking unicorn) can be a high.
Living with the stress of the city is like a constant adventure: will you be able to find a dentist to fix your chipped tooth at three am, will your train ever show up, will you ever get enough sleep, will that hot stranger on the subway write a missed connection about you, will the food delivery ever show up? yes, maybe, no, no, no.
Why would you ever give this up for the dull certainty of a scheduled life? You might as well just give up if you're going to move.
