High-Profile Clients
Those turning to luxury landscaping desire privacy as well as a living showpiece. And trees certainly look better than a big ugly fence.
As for who's willing to pay for such a service? Finance and business bigwigs, billionaires who reside on Miami's Indian Creek Island (known, of course, as the "Billionaire's Bunker"), and wealthy celebrities (one broker name-dropped Enrique Iglesias). One recent estimate for relocating a tree on Indian Creek was a whopping $250,000.
Tim Johnson, a partner at Fernando Wong Outdoor Living Design in Miami, told WSJ that several of his clients have purchased the homes next to theirs only to tear them down in order to have more room for their own gardens. One of his clients even got into a bidding war with Michael Jordan over a 45-foot canopied oak tree - and won.
