A bittersweet development for New York foodies and wine connoisseurs this week: Ariel Arce's beloved restaurant Niche Niche is closing at the end of January, but famed Roman eatery Roscioli will be taking its place.
The good news, at least, is that restaurateur Arce will stay on board as a partner of the revamped concept, which will remain a convivial, community-focused restaurant marrying the spirit of the property's predecessor with the authentic Italian influence of the acclaimed culinary brand, whose mini empire includes a bakery, deli, and various restaurants in Rome.
And while we hate to say goodbye to Niche Niche, which itself became a cult-favorite locale thanks to its "dinner party" style seatings, curated menus, and rotating lineup of sommeliers and wine tastings, it does mean we get to welcome the very first outpost of Roscioli, which earned Anthony Bourdain's stamp of approval, outside of its home city.
According to Eater, the new destination, which is set to open in the spring, will encompass a shoppable Roscioli alimentari, a deli, wine bar, and restaurant on the ground floor, and downstairs, a communal dining room à la Niche Niche.
So worry not, folks - it seems the dinner party will go on, just with a bit more Italian flair. And who could complain about that?
