The West Village certainly isn't wanting for picturesque spots to post up and watch the world pass by. And by "watch the world pass by" I obviously mean "sit, scroll on your phone, and maybe, if the lighting's good and you're feeling particularly shameless, take some photos of yourself so that you can then sit back down and scroll through them." But even still, new spot Fellini Coffee ranks pretty high on the list of neighborhood charmers.
Caffeine-hungry see-and-be-seeners spill about the sidewalk on the pointed snout of a block where Waverly meets Perry meets 7th Avenue. The micro café, which opened this July, operates out of an actual pizza-slice-sized space - I mean forget indoor seating, this place barely has enough room for the barista to sneeze.
Of course they've all your coffee shop usuals - your cold brew, your double espresso. And of course they've all your trendy must-haves - your match latte, your additional charge oat milk. But it's really the Signatures section of their menu which catches the eye.
A Dolce Vita, a creamy latte with caramel syrup and a sprinkling of Malden sea salt, sounds delicious enough to drink and I don't even touch coffee. A Dirty Chai, festive but ubiquitous. A Peach Iced Tea, the perfect sunny day sip. And - wait for it - a Protein-ccino?
Espresso, milk, and 12 ounces of protein powder.
While the existence of this drink completely discounts any claims Fellini could make to the words "authentic Italian," it does make it a contender for most practical, no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, too-many-things-to-do-so-let's-just-do-them-all-at-once, New York drink in town.
