After a short-lived stint at Kava Cafe, culinary wunderkind Flynn McGarry is wandering into the restaurant biz. Since opening a buzzed-about eatery in his mother's kitchen when he was just 11 years old, McGarry has staged tasting menu pop-ups in spots across the country. Now, he's getting his very own space.
Gem, which will occupy the former Cafe Henrie location on the Lower East Side, will feature both a daytime and nighttime concept. The Living Room will have a coffee shop feel and, come evening, The Dining Room will boast a $155 chef-curated menu that aims to capture the essence of an intimate dinner party.
"For a long time, I wanted to do something flashy, but at the end of the day, I wanted to be in a space that was mine, and I wanted a big bowl of pasta," the 19-year-old told Food & Wine.
Both concepts are set to open in February, but we're sure you won't get a seat for months. Good luck!
