THOUGHT CATALOG

Thought Catalog is a website that posts essays based on user submission. The site that calls itself “the future of journalism” is also one that posts humorous essays and pieces of dating advice by published writers including Tao Lin, Ryan O’Connell, and one of our previously mentioned favorites, Karley Sciortino.

Thought Catalog publishes the NYC dating queries and concerns that all of us think about but are too afraid to say out loud. Titles like “Why Haven’t You Responded To My Email,” “8 Digital Signs That Your Relationship Is Over,” and “Dating 101: 20 Secrets (That Are Not Really Secrets) About Dating” being great go-to’s for humorous advice on the least funny subject, the dating scene in NYC.

Stephanie Georgopulo’s article, “Pros And Cons Of Dating In NYC”, cleverly lays out the reasons why we continue to date in NYC:

“It really is magical. The stereotype is true – New Yorkers don’t know how to slow the fuck down. We’re “in the zone,” so to speak. We walk down the same 20 blocks or so on a daily basis; we frequent the same subway stations and buy cigarettes from the same bodega, and we can do this all on autopilot without absorbing anything that goes on around us. But when we’re on a date with someone we like, we’re different. We suddenly become aware of hidden Dim Sum restaurants and alleyways we’re certain didn’t exist until five minutes ago. When you’re with someone new in New York, it feels like you’re seeing everything for the first time. In some ways, you are.”
