The Ick

Although this term was apparently coined way back in the '90s by none other than Ally McBeal, Gen Z TikTokers deserve the credit for popularizing it for singles of the 2020s. "The Ick" is a name for the phenomenon of suddenly getting turned-off by a partner, or potential partner, due to some innocuous thing that they did.

It could be a mannerism, a facial expression, the use of a cringe emoji while texting. While most of us relate to the feeling of getting the Ick, it's absolutely terrifying to know that you could also be the one who gives it. Cue walking on icky eggshells forever!
