Villa Vizcaya - Miami, FL
This estate was built as a winter residence for James Deering between 1914 and 1922. What makes this estate so cool is that Deering wanted visitors to have to arrive by boat, so the house and its surrounding gardens were designed to welcome visitors from the back of the home instead of the front. The gardens surrounding the estate are considered some of the most elaborate horticultural feats in the United States. Now known as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, grounds keepers and art curators have restored and maintained the now-museum for patrons to visit year round. Quick trip to Miami, anyone?
