Before launching Robinhood, Tenev and his best friend and business partner, Baiju Bhatt, dabbled in the FinTech startup game with two NYC-based companies, an algorithmic trading company called Celeris and then Chronos Research, which sold low-latency software to other trading firms and banks. When he was in elementary school, though, Tenev says he and a friend "set up a stand in the neighborhood to sell household tools. Selling is a basic skill that unfortunately isn’t taught in schools."
