Banksy Rails Against One WTC in Rejected NYT Op-Ed
Banksy is taking over our city - and I LOVE IT! (BTW go HERE for all of his latest NYC works). During his stay here, he's seen his share of fans and critics. Likewise, he himself is not without opinion on what constitutes good city art. Check out his critique of the new One World Trade Center Tower: Calling it "104 floors of compromise," and a "shy skyscraper," Banksy wrote an op-ed, rejected by The New York Times, harshly criticizing One WTC. The artist writes that the building is "vanilla," and that it should have been a "dazzling new" replacement for the Twin Towers.
"Remarkably for such a tall structure, One World Trade lacks any self-confidence. How does it stand up without a spine? It looks like it never wanted to be built in the first place. It reminds you of a really tall kid at a party, awkwardly shifting his shoulders trying not to stand out from the crowd. It's the first time I've ever seen a shy skyscraper."
