The building was razed and rebuilt beginning in 1963 into it's current eyesore. Originally designed in the Beaux Arts style, with Doric columns and a 150-foot vaulted ceiling, the rebuilding of the new version was led by the Madison Square Garden Corporation, which made room for the arena by building an underground station where the original once stood.
