Queen Charlotte's Ball, London
Founded in 1780 by King George III in honor of his wife’s birthday, Queen Charlotte’s Ball was the first debutante ball in the world. At one time, the ball introduced the daughters of British nobility to potential husbands. However, today's girls are chosen based on their charity work and whom the committee would feel best benefit from the event. The chosen debutantes then have to embark on a one year program of etiquette classes and charity fundraisers.
This year, Queen Charlotte’s Ball was held at the Highclere Castle and the debutantes were from Britain’s most well to do families. Plus, every year the event's sponsors make sure every young lady is fully decked out in pearls and jewels.
