Shanghai International Debutante Ball, Shanghai
Unlike much of the debutante heritage and history, Shanghai International Debutante Ball only began in 2012. Up until the mid '80s, Communist China regarded farmers and workers as the noblest people of all. The Shanghai International Ball adhered to many aspects of a traditional ball, but by including debutantes who are not of noble, aristocratic, historically significant lineage, the ball paid homage to the financial growth that the city has experienced over the past decade.
The debutantes every year are treated to an opulent lifestyle in Shanghai for the week, being chauffeured to and from events in designer cars, wearing jewelry from French designer, Chaumet, who has sponsored the event every year.
