Typhoon Season
When people in Hong Kong start betting on whether or not torrential downpour will turn into a typhoon number 8 (essentially, a hurricane-grade storm), it is not due to health and safety concerns, but because a typhoon number 8 means free (or heavily discounted) shooters at aptly named bars, such as Stormies and Typhoon. This takes “hurricane parties” to the next level, with expats braving the streets even when taxis and other forms of public transportation are legally halted by the government due to weather-related danger.
