Austria

austria chateauxFairly new to the winter destination list, Austria's tourism has grown fast, welcoming international skiers from all over the world. Kitzbühel is one of the most visited ski destinations, and for good reason. Kitzbühel is an upscale retreat for Austria’s jetset and socialites. It is also home to Kitzbühler Horn, which is a staggering 6,548 feet, and Hahnenkamm, where the annual world cup ski races take place. The town itself has significant historical monuments, including St. Catherine’s Church, built in 1360, which means you can take a cultural break when you need a timeout from the slopes. Of course, the city of Vienna is also super chic. Just four hours away from Kitzbühel, Vienna is a great supplemental trip - if only to visit the impressive Baroque architecture consisting of grand castles and intricate gardens, such as Schönbrunn Palace and the Belvedere Complex. The Virgilkapelle Medieval subterranean chapel built in 1250 can be found in Stephansplatz, a vibrant square in the center of Vienna which is home to a lot of interesting architecture and high-end stores. Those who are musically inclined must make time to check out the classical music scene from the grand Vienna State Opera House to catching the famed Vienna Boys Choir perform.
