Phu Quoc
Just an hour plane ride from Ho Chi Minh City and nine miles off the coast of Cambodia, Phu Quoc looks like the kind of island from "Lost," in a good way. With dense forests nestled behind the beaches, the island includes over 20 islets that are worth a day boat trip guided by locals. Phu Quoc offers some of the best seafood you will eat in the entire country. If you go during the "shoulder season" of tourism (late October) you can avoid the cruise chips letting off their passengers and find villas at half the price. Search for hidden beaches on a motorcycle, relax under palm trees shading the mile long beaches, or go shopping for local pearls.
