Phan Thiet
Phan Thiet is often overlooked and is a nice chance to get away from the backpackers that crowd most beaches. The river that runs through the city is filled with boats, creating a mini-market which, unlike the floating markets in other Southeast Asian cities, is mostly locals. The city is famous for its fish sauce, making millions of liters a year. Former PGA golfer Nick Faldo designed a world class golf course (only $65 per round), which is located on the sand dunes and overlooks the jungle and sea. Just 20 minutes away are the untouched beaches of Mui Ne, where in low seasons resorts offer extremely cheap spa and massage deals. From Mui Ne, you can take a cable car up the mountain to one of the largest Buddhist states in Asia.
