Manifest: AR
The AR in this Corcoran exhibition stands for "Augmented Reality," which perfectly sums up what this is: images of real places around Washington digitally supplemented with new images and drawings by the artists. These "Augmented Realities" can dramatically change the feeling the image with petitions and e-memorials or "eMorials." The Corcoran will also feature iPads and instructions for implementing visitors' smartphones to further augment the artwork. The exhibition serves as a reflection of our own Augmented Realities, which are changed by new technologies like smartphones and Google Glass.
The exhibition opens tomorrow with a free reception at the Corcoran's Gallery 31 (500 17th St NW) on Wednesday, August 14 at 6pm.
Artists in the exhibition include: John Cleater, John Craig Freeman, Will Pappenheimer, Mark Skwarek, Tamiko Thiel, and Sander Veenhof.
