Fitness Class Review: Barre 3 Georgetown

by Annie Cecil · August 20, 2013

In the sea of pop-up specialized gyms that seem to be taking over the DC workout scene, it is hard to decipher the good from the mediocre. Having taken a few other ballet-inspired “barre” fitness classes in other cities, I was eager to try out some of the new ones opening here in Washington.

Barre 3 appealed to me after hearing some good reviews from friends. Barre 3 also had what I thought was a great deal: 3 classes for $45 for any newbies to the studio.

After taking 3 of Barre’s 6:30 PM after work hour-long classes, I was hooked.

Students are dressed head to toe in colorful Lululemon attire. The instructors are fit, bubbly and teach perfect posture and core work. You won’t sweat much, but you should still expect to get a serious full body workout (and feel it the next day).

Each class is an hour and focuses on abs, glutes, legs and arms. Classes start with yoga and pilates breathing and stretches, then continue on to more challenging poses. The idea is to use light weights and a ballet-inspired strength workout that leaves you literally SHAKING by the end of class.

Pair Barre 3 with some cardio a few times a week and you’ll be bikini ready in no time (as demonstrated by the fit, petite instructors that lead class).

Barre 3 classes run daily at the Georgetown location with classes held from 6:30am – 7:45pm. Single classes are $25 with special packages ranging from $45 - $570. [More]
