A viral rap music video has been making its rounds on the internet in favor of Fenty's reelection. Although D.C. Council Chairman Vince Gray's infamy pales in comparison to the corruption that surrounded our former mayor Marion Barry, there still seem to be many District residents who are reluctant to elect Gray as the new D.C. mayor.
Created by Wali a.k.a Big Wax featuring Weensey of Backyard Band, the video comes off as a representation of D.C.'s black community and how they want Fenty to stay in office. Titled "Don't Leave Us Fenty," Wali presents us with an auto-tuned plea for his mayor of choice, while sampling 2Pac beats along the way. In other words, this is 21st century campaigning at its best!
What makes this story so amusing is that just this morning, a "response" video was posted on the official 'Vince Gray For Mayor' Campaign blog. The blogger wrote the following:
"We may not be able to compete with professionally produced hip-hop joints featuring borrowed 2Pac beats (who paid for that video, btw? Didn't see a disclosure on it, just a giant campaign logo.), but it doesn't mean our supporters aren't ready to sing their support for Vince's candidacy."
When did campaigning become so creative?! Here is the response "music video" from Team Gray.
I guess we'll all have to just wait and find out who will come out on top...or make our own response to the response video expressing our own political inclinations and aspirations. But we'll rap on some Biggie--East Coast!
