The Beginning of Burt's Bees

The Beginning of Burt's BeesAs a beekeeper, Shavitz founded a business of natural honey and beeswax that he obtained from his bees. Quimby provided the perfect partnership by focusing on keeping the candles high quality which helped their business prosper from $200, to $20,000 after just one year of their candle business. As luck would have it, New York boutique, Zona, helped to increase their sales by buying hundreds of their candles. As a result of this publicity, approximately 40 employees were hired to work for Shavitz and Quimby. While their company began increasing, so did their products. Burt had read and studied the art of beekeeping and so the two decided to keep their products natural and homemade. [Photo via Facebook]
