Rodarte for Black Swan
Despite costuming controversy that surrounded this film (it came down to Rodarte not being credited as the film's main costume designer, so were ineligible for potential awards), we still have to hand it to the Pasadena based couture label for their work on some of the film's costumes. Features included burnt copper head pieces as well as many layers of tulle. In a Vogue interview with the Rodarte sisters, Laura Mulleavy said, "Building a tutu is one of the lost couture arts," and the results definitely make you appreciate the incredible details that go into constructing ballet costumes. This wouldn't be the last time Rodarte paired up with a ballet production: in 2012, they designed costumes for the New York City Ballet.
