Banh Mi (Vietnam)
We dare anyone to visit Vietnam without at some point trying a Banh Mai. Banh Mi, which means bread in Vietnamese, has been used to describe the popular street cart style sandwich. The French had a huge influence on Vietnam during the colonial period, and the resulting local food held on to a bit of French flair (the baguette, and mayonnaise). The most common fillings in the Banh Mi include pork belly, sausage, chicken, egg and tofu, and vegetable accouterments most commonly include cucumber, mayonnaise, cilantro, and pickled carrots. Add a healthy helping of the spicy chili sauce and it's the perfect late night munch after a night out in Hanoi.
