Madame Sixty Ate
A relatively new addition to the Hong Kong scene, Madame Sixty Ate shares an address with fellow molecular gastronomy heavyweight, Bo Innovation. Just like its name’s playful take on words, the interior of the restaurant is a mish-mash of colors and furniture that make up its modern British-dining-room-in-Paris vibe. Started by Chris Woodyard and Andrew Braham—who were the Culinary Director of the W Hotel and former sous-chef to Tom Aiken, respectively—nothing short of whimsical can be found on its menu. For example, their ‘Paella for Pedro’ is literally made with rice crispies and popcorn while their mousse reinterpretation of a cheese plate delights. Madame Sixty Ate is where you go for an “Alice in Wonderland” sort of experience in food. It’s full of imagination and a reminder to not take yourself too seriously, which is an unfortunate bi-product of Hong Kong’s big city lifestyle. A word of warning though: portion sizes here are slightly meager, so don’t say no to their delicious bread basket and smoked butter.
