It's no secret that The Surf Lodge has been trying to control its crowds this summer. And you know, perhaps along the way make itself a bit more exclusive slash discerning in terms of clientele. They finally fix the crazy bathroom line problem to now only let people in who have reservations - go figure!
Though their efforts be in good spirit, helping keep the place pleasant for those inside, god knows nothing can stop scene-seeking Manhattanites out East. Case in point? The tens of fans sans reservations who took to the seas to score a spot at the John Legend performance this weekend. Well, they actually took to the pond, Fort Pond. But you get the point.
With Surf Lodge doing its best to stress the message that no one without a reservation would be allowed - sending out a newsletter before the event, and apparently even hiring 20 security guards to help enforce the reservations-only theme of the evening - in true Montauk fashion, a crowd of crafty party people made their way out on kayaks, paddle boats and Hobie Cats and docked up alongside the hot spot to enjoy the performance.
And while they may not have been enjoying a tower of french fries and chicken fingers in the VIP section, they did get to sing along to 'Ordinary People,' 'Save Room' and Legend's other hits. So yeah, we think they won. #PaddleRoomOnly
