What's old is new again, at least in the basement of The Mercer Hotel.
Following Scott Sartiano and BOND Hospitality's refresh of Mercer Kitchen - reborn months ago as the sleek Italian-American restaurant Sartiano's - the group is re-opening the hotel's beloved late night classic of yore, Submercer.
The It Spot of the 90s, Submercer closed its doors over a decade back, leaving a decent, approximately 85-person-capacity sized hole in Soho's actually fun nightlife options.
While this new iteration isn't technically jumping on the members-club train New York's been doubling down hard on as of late, it's not not. The space is open Thursday through Saturday, from 10PM on, with reservations required for tables and general guest list entry.
Once inside, an edited menu of small bites - chips and caviar, truffle fries, Cacio e Pepe arancini, you get the point - and half bottle service await.
While the subterranean haunt is touting itself as a sophisticated scene - not the sort to be confused with a rowdy nightclub - you've got to wonder what kind of elegant ideas they had in mind with that dance pole in the mirrored back area by the banquettes...
