It appears that the glory days of $1 beers and syrupy mudslides at everyone's favorite Montauk dive bar have come to an end...
Liar's Saloon was one of the last bastions of old guard Montauk - you know, back when the town wasn't riding a one-way ticket to sceney self-destruction. Back when you'd head all the way out to the very end of Long Island not to see and be seen, but to chill on the beach, fish, and lay low.
Rumor has it that the marina-side spot, which comes with 50 boat slips, was purchased for $6 million earlier this spring.
Will the beloved family-run spot, which has been a fisherman's haven since 1978, be turned into yet another trendy Montauk attraction that absolutely no locals asked for?
Time will tell.
Though certainly, it's not as if a stylized fate wasn't inevitable, one way or the other.
The past few years have seen an influx of Instagram-focused patrons flooding the place, desperate for a snap at a cool, authentic Montauk institution to add to their feeds.
What we know for sure is people and money really know how to ruin a good thing.
Truly a bitter end.
