Beach Erosion Is Labor Day Party Foul In The Hamptons

Until further notice, Georgica Beach will remain closed after being subject to extreme beach erosion from Hurricane Irene. Currently, there is a five-foot drop from the public access point on the road leading officials to keep the public beach closed. Labor Day beach goers will have to take a mile hike down the road to the next beach access point.

"This is the most severe erosion I've seen in that area since the '70s," East Hampton Village Administrator Larry Cantwell said in The Post. "It's bad. It's closed indefinitely."

Georgica beach is adjacent to the Clintons' rental on Lily Pond Lane and down the street from Madonna's summer home. It's also a fame haven known to accommodate stars like Coldplay's Chris Martin and wife Gwyneth Paltrow (because we know she's still here), Steven Spielberg and Russell Simmons' frequent yoga sessions. No named regulars might have to wait another harsh winter for next summer's celebrity sightings in the Hamptons.

    Happy Labor Day, Irene.
