Fresno After Sunday

fresno new american cuisineIn the Spring of 2004, veteran restauranteurs David Loewenberg and Michael Nolan opened up what soon became one of my favorite restaurants in the Hamptons, and now my favorite summer prix-fixe!

On a quiet street behind the East Hampton train station - the street for which the restaurant is named, there humbly rests Fresno. Sister restaurants include The Beacon in Sag Harbor and Red Bar Brasserie in Southampton. My first meal here of New American cuisine left me grinning from ear to ear. The hanger steak was fantastically seasoned, quickly devoured, even though I'd just scarfed down a killer wedge of iceberg lettuce with roquefort dressing. But what really won me over was the dessert... a strawberry shortcake made from all local ingredients seasoned with a hint of pepper (go figure). Needless to say, I have become one of Fresno's regulars.

But there's a kicker! If you happen to stay an extra day, Fresno offers a deal no one can beat! For $28 they serve their "to-die-for" 3 course meals off a Price-Fixe menu! Worried that you'll never get to take advantage of this brilliant offer because you have to Jitney it back Sunday night to work Monday? Don't! Fresno is nice enough to keep this deal open even on holiday weekends! So this labor day, choose Fresno before heading back to the city. I assure you won't regret it!
