Family Connections

It's safe to say that creative genius and a taste for originality was in her blood. Her great-great-grandmother rose from poverty to become the mistress of the Duke of York. Her grandfather, George du Maurier, was a famed author and cartoonist who created the character of Svengali, while her maternal uncle was journalist and author William Comyns Beaumont. Her cousins, the five Llewelyn Davies boys, were the inspiration for J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Indeed, her notable family connections helped establish her literary career, and her two sisters also ventured into the arts - one was a fellow writer and the other, a painter.
