Alon Levin: Beautiful Things
Three key 20th century movements factor into Alon Levin's exhibit,
Beautiful Things:
1. Fascism - think Third Reich.
2. The Aesthetic Movement - an art movement where beauty is valued above social-political matters.
3. Total Design - a product is created holistically from the need of the product, all to way to the marketing and selling.
Contemporary artist Levin used cut-out paintings, ceramics and fabric to explore how beauty was used to advance social and political principles during these movements. You can see the blend of the eras in one
Beautiful Things piece by observing the pure beauty of cards each with varying cut-out flower shapes placed upright in a ring, versus what they cards look like stacked with jagged violence in the center.
See more of Levin's beautiful things this weekend at the opening reception on Saturday.
