Nina Tichava: Float
Nina Tichava's work uses layers of paint, charcoal, ink, tape, ballpoint pen, canvas and metal on paper and wood to blend in painting, printmaking and craft techniques. She uses so many coats of material in the process that layers are hidden underneath the finalized surface. Tichava's meticulousness and experience shows through her application of tiny beads of paint that are individually applied with a brush. Because her pieces are hand-made, she believes that "perfection is unattainable therefore each piece is unique" which is an "inherent quality that continues to engage me in painting." You can get a closer look at her art pieces in Float in conjunction with Danny Heller's exhibit, City Modernism, this Saturday at the George Billis Gallery.
