There's a funny kind of disconnect that can come with starting out as a fashion blogger: you're writing about the most glamorous people and items in the world, but until you hit it big, you're still working out of the metaphorical (or real) basement. How you go about bridging that gap to mainstream success was the subject of Monday's star studded FABB West Fashion & Beauty Blog Conference at Santa Monica's beautiful Annenberg Beach House, hosted by Lucky.  [Elizabeth Banks photo via]

With so many different challenges facing young fashion & beauty writer/entrepreneurs, the conference was held with an open-style format. This meant that while big-name speakers were gracing the main panel throughout the day (and more on that in a moment), there was also an ongoing series of breakout panels and discussions held in other rooms of the Annenberg house, each with its own theme and speaker, on such important and applicable topics as How To Monetize Your Blog, How To Work With Brands, and How To Find Your Voice.

In the main room, Lucky assembled a fabulous collection of A-list talent from entertainment and fashion to discuss their careers, their style and their own roads to success. Jessica Alba discussed her new Honest line of eco-friendly baby products, why eco-friendliness is so important ("if your baby is like mine and decides to eat her diaper, our diapers won't hurt her") and how environmentally sound products don't have to automatically come in boring earth tones. "Mad Men" costume designer Janie Bryant and Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper) talked about the amazing style of the show, what they're wearing now (sorry, all other 12-year olds, Kiernan rocks Oscar de la Renta's kids line), and even the dress Meghan wears for the infamous "Zou Bisou" scene. Other huge names included Elizabeth Banks, who talked about her love of Twitter, and designer Zac Posen, who discussed his career with Lucky editor Brandon Holley.

Overall, it was not only the famous faces, the invaluable advice or the impeccable style that carried the day, but how all of those elements were curated into an event that was equal parts entertaining, inspiring, glamorous and educational. While all attendees surely received enough knowledge and encouragement to hit it big between now and next year, it's a safe bet they'll be coming back, too.
