The Dresden
[via] These days, 'supper club' is tossed around liberally in the names Hollywood's unst unst bottle service establishments where you'll find no such supper or any dining for that matter. Los Feliz's The Dresden, however, embodies the true concept of a supper club from the days of yore, offering patrons a complete dining and nighttime bar socializing experience. Open since 1954, this Vermont Avenue restaurant and lounge has has earned landmark status thanks in large part to being prominently featured as the go-to hangout in cult classic Swingers. [Marty and Elayne via] Hollywood fame aside, The Dresden is remarkable in its own right for the incredibly steadfast commitment to keeping its original decor and general scene in tact and has even been used in several scenes for films set in 60s and 70s, such as That Thing You Do and Anchorman for this reason. Step inside the carpeted lounge and dining area dimly lit by 50s floor-to-ceiling chandeliers and circular lanterns and you'll feel as though you've entered a time warp as house performers Marty and Elayne, he on drums or upright bass, she on piano and flute, give rousing renditions of everything from Sinatra to the Bee Gees. The duo (yes, the same one from Swingers) has been lighting up The Dresden with their old school showmanship and tunes for over 30 years and still bring the lounge its transportive charm Tuesday through Saturday. Grab a martini at the bar where drinks are always stiff and take a seat on the curvy red vinyl chairs or a booth for an evening that will take you back to how your grandparents used to party.
