Acabar
The former space of legendary Indian restaurant Dar Maghreb that featured seating on the floor and belly dancers boasts a stunning transformation with the arrival of Acabar (also featured on our list of L.A.'s 10 Best New Restaurants of 2013). Truly one of L.A.'s most beautiful and romantic spaces, Acabar's food menu follows the Spice Trail mixing elements of the Middle East, Eastern Mediterranean, parts and Asia and Europe with lots if French influence. The decor similarly reflects the cuisine concept, retaining much of the unique design elements featured in Dar Maghreb such as pillars, high arch ceilings, walls and floors covered in intricate mosaic tiling, and exquisite Moorish-style archways. Upon entering, you'll find a dining room and raw bar to the left, a cozy lounge of couches running along the walls to the right, and a bar straight ahead where the cocktails are made. The menu of drinks is divided into eras from between 1783 to the present such as the Baroque and Post-Prohibition & Tiki, and features punch bowls such as the Martha Washington's Rum punch (Batavia Arrack, English Harbor 5 year rum, lime sorbet, lemon sorbet, spiced syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg) enough to drink up 6-8 people. Definitely one of the year's most exceptional additions to L.A.'s dining and cocktail scene, get transported to an exotic faraway land with an evening at Acabar.
