Sam Nazarian continues his conquest east with a new project in the works that will have heat-seeking trendwhores swarming. The nightlife and hospitality mogul behind the SBE empire is expected to announce today that he will take over a hotel property at Hollywood and Vine. The building at 1717 Vine St. was supposed to be Palihouse Hollywood (sister of Palihouse on Holloway in WeHo), before its developers hit financial straits. But as soon as Nazarian's acute sense of opportunity picked up the project's scent of trouble, he swooped in for the holdings. The undertaking marks a continuation of SBE's recent drift east (Katsuya, The Colony) of its usual West Hollywood Turf (SLS, XIV, The Abbey, Hyde, etc...). We anticipate some healthy competition between the new W Hollywood megaplex and the SBE hotel just a block away when it opens in three-four months.
Apparently a name or concept has not been decided upon for SBE's new Hollywood digs but, with rooms boasting kitchens, washers and dryers, Nazarian explains that it's meant to target people on extended stays and "a new generation of bohemian do-it-yourselfers." The hotel will also feature a restaurant that we're sure will become another buzzing hive for publicity-hungry celebs wanting a photo-op. So get ready for some more valet-blocking traffic and even more hordes folks in borderline offensive outfits, Hollywood -- Sam Nazarian is moving to the block!
