Sotto
Sotto is my favorite restaurant in L.A. No, not my favorite Italian restaurant, or my favorite Westside restaurant, or any other qualifier that would prevent me from heaping the mountain of unadulterated praise that Sotto so richly deserves. Separating itself from the pack of L.A. Italian restaurants with a focus on dishes and specialties from the less affluent southern region of Italy, where resources are scarcer and ingredients like pork cheek, lamb belly and even more Mediterranean associated pieces like chickpeas and baby squid all make their way into jaw-droppingly good handmade pasta dishes. There's pizza, too, which befits the pedigree of Steve Samson and Zack Pollack, who come to Sotto by way of Orange County's well-known Pizzeria Ortica. If you come for lunch, don't miss the grilled pork meatballs, and on the dinner menu, you really can't go wrong with the chicken liver rigatoni. Honestly, you just can't go wrong.
