A Romance of Paradise by Allison Janae Hamilton

What I love most about Allison’s work is how deeply personal it is.

Her new exhibition, spanning sculpture, photography and video, is no exception. The artist's native Florida landscape acts as the lush, rich environment for the show and it's exploration of the Black south through a pastel, Garden of Eden-type lens.

Often in her work, Allison uses friends and family and builds on characters and mythology from previous shows. She has in a many ways created her own world and cannon within the art, which is one of the things I love most about seeing each successive exhibition. I had the pleasure of interviewing Allison over the summer from her studio and seeing some of these works in their very early stages, so I was particularly delighted to see this new show come to fruition.

On view at Marianne Boeskey Gallery now through April 24th.
