Grief and Grievance: Art and Mourning in America by Various Artists

While loss and mourning may not be the most uplifting of subjects, this show at the New Museum is a must-see.

Grief and Grievance: Art and Mourning in America brings together thirty-seven works by a variety of artists spanning multiple mediums for an extremely moving and powerful show.

One of my favorite works is Rashid Johnson Antoine’s Organ - a mixture of steel, plants, and grow lights which touches upon the concept of incarceration and containment. Inside the structure exists an upright piano which acts as the beating heart and humanization of the work. Viewers will surely feel a range of feelings and emotions upon entering.

On view at The New Museum now through June 6th.
