Robin F. Williams, Sons of the Pioneers
Brooklyn-based painter, Robin F. Williams, challenges traditional gender roles in the sphere of art by replacing the romanticized female form with that of languid males. As a woman, the artist's surprising shift of sex-based expectations is especially poignant, overthrowing the patriarchal notion of masculinity and presenting, instead, a softer embodiment of "man." The juxtaposition of vibrant adornments and impressionistic portraiture signifies the mixed identities of these imagined men, their myths, and their mysteries according to Williams.
