Byung Hoon Choi, In One Stroke
An important figure in the modern history of Korean art, Byung Hoon Choi is unveiling his very first solo-exhibition on American soil, a moment as monumental as his sculptures. Eleven "benches" made of basalt stone take the stage as minimalist objects inspired by swift and singular brushstrokes of paint. Smooth and polished stone is juxtaposed against raw and unrefined rock to create a cultural balance (and tension) that somehow makes each piece a "whole."
