Walid Siti, Parallel Realms
Ideas of deconstruction and reconstruction are addressed in the new paintings and installations of Iraqi-Kurdish artist Walid Siti. After experiencing the instability of the political situation in the Middle East firsthand, Siti is interested in the ongoing transformation of his homeland, valuing, however, its traditional symbolic structures, such as pyramids and Ziggurats, over the rushed results of rapid modernization and social flux today.
